The dynamics of the game encourage detectives to strategically plan their moves in an effort to corner Jack. At the outset, players are assigned roles randomly, placing their tokens on various London locations as part of their strategy. Jack must cleverly manipulate the detectives and create false leads.

As night descends, Jack executes his first murder—though some matches may begin without an initial casualty. Following this, players enter a voting phase where individuals near the crime scene become suspects. The tension escalates as detectives attempt to discern who among them is the true murderer.
